I Love This Book! I read this book when I was in high school and have read it many times since. I have always checked it out from the library, but decided I just had to have a hard copy. It's just a wonderful mystery with lots of suspense, a little romance, and a main character that somehow I could really relate to. The funny thing is that it's the only book I have ever read from Dorothy Gilman. I'm sure her others are just as good, but I always go back to this one. If you love mysteries, I know you will love this one!
Well constructed and spell binding until the very end. Lots of mystery with enough love story to lighten the mix. Good read
I've read as many of your books as I could find. While Mrs Pollifax is a gem, this book is an adult fairy tale. I'll read it again to make sure I didn't miss anything, then a third time to exhaust in the language, in the situations only you would create, and in the realm of gentility,
Excellent storytelling by Dorothy Gilman. After living a sheltered life, Amelia Jones finds a hidden note and what she reads intrigues her enough to embark upon a quest to find out about the author of the note. Along the way she meets all kinds of interesting people. She not only finds out about the author of the note but almost loses her life a few times as well!
From the author of the Mrs. Pollifax books, this is a charming story of a girl learning to know herself in the midst of mystery and old murder. A very entertaining, easy read.
This story is most serendipitous. Read this long ago and only now does it speak loudly to me. Read it with someone you love and be patient. Not one of Gilman's series. Give it a few hours and then share it widely. It has a message that speaks loudly of the importance of small acts and personal growth.
How refreshing to read this story in such an original voice! The story of Amelia is quite mesmerizing. You'll thoroughly enjoy this book. It has a magical quality! Dorothy Gilman causes you to miss her characters and long to read more.
