I loved this book!!! Tilly has left the Amish world and married an Englischer. She has 2 daughters. Ruth is also living Englisch but I'm not sure if she ever joined church. Their dad is ill and their brother asks them to come home for an anniversary celebration. They go, but Tilly and her dad are just not getting along, Tilly tries but her dad rebuffs her efforts. Then they learn that their parents have deeded their farm to their brother and will be moving into the dawdi house on the property The girls stay to help their parents pack up and move next door. Long ago, their little sister Anna drowned in the river and her body was never recovered. Tilly blames herself for her sister's death. I won't give away what brought Tilly and her dad together, but in the end hey reconciled. After the last series that wasn't Beverly Lewis, this was right on the money.

The River Beverly Lewis 9780764212451 Books Reviews

I loved the way God brought this family back together. Such a loving family that any one would wish to be part of. I gave this book 5 stars because won't allow more stars. Beverly your books get better with each new one you write. Thank you once again for bringing us closer to God. You are a blessing to all your readers.
I have all of Lewis' books, and love them. This one was a little less than her best. I think she is tired of her Amish. I am now reading the Photograph and it is boring. The story line is good, the people are standing out. I do not know why, but I am not thrilled with it.
The try did not describe much depth of the heart. The story develops so slowly that it gave me a hard time to continue to read... The last part why Ruthie decided her final judgment on her man was a nearly a joke., wasn't it? I m sorry for all these I am sying. Please excuse me by thinking the other majority of readers like this book and I am ony a one f handful who wonder...
What an amazing story. I loved every moment of reading this, Beverly Lewis out did herself. The struggle of Tilly with her father and finally finding out the truth of her birth was incredible. Thank you so very much for this amazing story. May the Lord continue to bless you with more inspiring stories.
I have read many of the books by Beverly Lewis. This is one of the better ones. A couple of points. Maybe I missed it, but I dont have any idea of what the jamborees is or why/how that interfered with Ruth's relationship. Also, obviously Tilly's mother realized all along that her husband was not being fair to Tilly, and why. Even in a religion that teaches submission, I find it hard to believe she would let this go on for Tilly's whole life and never at least say something to her husband.
I can always depend on a good story from Beverly Lewis. I have found I enjoy some of the new
young authors but when I want the story to have more of an Amish feel I return to Beverly Lewis.
I want to hear some of their language in the story and some of the newer writers hardly put it in.
Thank you Beverly for keeping them Amish.
My only disappointment with any of Beverly Lewis's books are that they come to an end. MS. Lewis is the premier Amish writer of Amish fiction.I have read everyone of her ADULT books. Every book draws you into the story. You feel as if you know the characters. There is always a story line that is so different. Makes you wonder how she thought of this story line and how does she create each character of the book. The River is no different from her other stories. From the very beginning you know that you want to find the secrets of this family. Why did two of the sister's leave their Amish life behind. And what a story it is. I hope that Ms. Lewis will continue to develop these characters into another book. I have more questions about this family and more secrets to be told. Beverly Lewis is the best of the best Amish Fiction. I wish she could write faster !!!!!
